“Hey “WhiteHat” — thank you for returning 85% of the coins. That was a meaningful step toward resolving this. I appreciate the seriousness of the vulnerability you exposed. Researchers who uncover problems of this scale deserve recognition and meaningful compensation. I also recognize that I haven’t seen the full negotiations, and I look forward to reading the released communications to better understand both sides. My main concern is for the ordinary holders whose funds remain involved. They have no control over the negotiations, and I hope there is a way to return their funds while reaching a fair agreement on your reward. Would you consider 50–100 BTC, paid by Blockstream from its own funds, as a possible basis for a negotiated resolution? That is still life-changing money and, in my opinion, a substantial acknowledgment of your work. 600 BTC is an enormous amount, but it would be hard to enjoy if it meant constantly looking over your shoulder. To me, a substantial reward and a clear path toward putting this behind you would be worth more than a larger amount tied to years of uncertainty. I hope there is an agreement that lets you enjoy the reward and move forward with peace of mind. Any agreement should include clear written terms, reviewed by your own lawyer, that address your legal concerns. I’m suggesting a possible compromise—not trying to put a definitive price on your discovery or dismiss your side of the negotiations. Blockstream: please take the lead in offering fair compensation from your own resources and working toward an agreement. I’m writing as someone who wants to see your contribution recognized, holders made whole, and Liquid safely back online. P.S. Wow, there’s a lot of spam being sent! This isn’t spam—feel free to respond. And no, I don’t want any BTC.”
